Sangdoo, Let's Go to School

it has been a lousy week. but then i manage to finish another korea-novela series, Sangdoo, Lets Go to School. Sangdoo01_2 nice story! funny yet touching. there's this part were the main lead ( Sangdoo) is trying to cut the hair of his daughter ( Bori ) who will undergo chemotheraphy. its very touching because eventhough Sangdoo manage to convince Bori have her hair cut, saying its the preferred haircut of his doctor ( Min-suk ), who incidentally is Bori's ultimate crush, it will really touch you because of the way Sangdoo tries to hide his emotion then asking Bori to sing while cutting her hair.

Bi's acting is even better here than Full House since you can see how versatile he is in this role. his acting was truely amazing considering that this is his debut role.

Finally

finally, im done reading The Chamber. a 676-page novel by John Grisham. Fbb1224128a0a46dd8045010 I started last week i guess, and normally, I should be done w/in 3-4 days ( not fulltym reading, of course I have to work ), but it did take a while because I also started to watch "Full House", a Koreanovela series. its a 16-episode DVD and each episode runs for approx 45min to 1 hour. its really funny eventhough its very tiring to read the subtitles. and mind you eventhough the its in korean language its a must to turn on the speaker volume eventhough I cannot undestands any words ecept their names and of course "FIGHTING"  i spent at least 2-3 hours per day watching and finally I was able to finish the whole series. P1003729879

I guess it will take me a year to finish all the 12 DVDs that my officemate Jerick purchased for me. it was he who introduced me to this new hobby. hehehe! thans jerick!

and since its my off today, it'll be a new koreanovela. probably "The Prince Who Turns into a Frog" ( Frog Prince in the previouss GMA series ).  hahaha! and of course another novel, pro'ly Dust to Dust by Tami Hoag.

THE CHAMBER

Chamber

The Chamber (1994) is a legal/suspense novel by noted American author John Grisham. It features a discussion about capital punishment. Set around the Mississippi State Penitentiary, it is the story of an old man and former Klansman named Sam Cayhall who is convicted of murder and sentenced to death by gas chamber twenty      years after his bombing of a Jewish lawyer's office.

His paternal grandson, Adam Hall, whose father had his family's name changed because of the disgraceful family history, journeys south from Chicago to represent Sam in the final month before the date of execution. Adam decided to become a lawyer soon after his father, Eddie Cayhall, committed uicide on the day that Sam was convicted of murder in Mississippi. Adam is determined to argue a stay for his grandfather, in spite of Sam's violent past, because Sam is one of the few living links to his family's history. It transpires that Sam did not in fact commit the actual crime for which he's been found guilty, but has instead a long and largely secret history of the Klan-related crime. As Adam desperately argues motion after motion, the story moves to its last gory moments.

The novel combines elements of legal commentary and suspense to fully illustrate the complications surrounding various legal issues, such as the death penalty and racism.

In 1996, The Chamber was made into a movie starring Gene Hackman and  Chris O'Donnell.

FULL HOUSE

Synopsis

This drama attempts to answer the question of whether two people — a famous actor and an ordinary woman — can learn to love each other in a marriage agreed only on paper. It also explores the meaning of the family by presenting that no matter how hard the present may seem, the world is still a good place because of those who bring hopes into our lives through their presence alone.

This drama features diverse characters: considerate, caring, frank, patient, and sticking to life’s basic values. But no matter how different the personalities, everyone finds happiness in the end.

This drama is based upon a manhwa of the same title, Full House by the Korean cartoonist Won Sooyeon.

Storyline

A naive, cheerful, albeit somewhat reclusive writer, Ji Eun is swindled out of everything she owns — not by strangers, but her best friends! Stranded in another country, she is determined to get home, only to find that all which is precious to her has been sold. In an attempt to get her possessions back, she has to "sell her soul." A story about love and heartbreak, sadness and self-preservation. In spite of it all, Ji Eun manages to be humorous and endearing - even when her heart is breaking.

Characters

The names used in the Philippines are in parentheses.

Han Ji-Eun (Jessie Han) ~ Song Hye Kyo

Ji-Eun is cheerful, optimistic and loyal to her friends. She is naive and not very smart, but she makes up for it with her spunk and good heart. Her journey with Young Jae shows how much she loves and what she is willing to do to protect the people she loves. She is an orphaned online novelist who lives in a beautiful house (called FULL HOUSE) which she inherited from her parents. Her troubles started when her closest friends tricked her by sending her on a trip to Shanghai so they could sell her house behind her back.

Lee Young-Jae (Justin Lee) ~ Bi (Rain)

Young-Jae is a top Korean actor. He does his utmost not to hurt other people and not to be hurt himself. Every movie he starred in became a blockbuster. He is stubborn when it comes to selecting which movies to star in, but he has received much acclaim for his talent. Although Young-Jae always behaves and speaks as he wants, he does that only to protect himself from being hurt and not to hurt others. People think of him as a very candid person, but that is also Young-Jae’s strategy to hide himself – or rather his failure to express himself to the fullest. As one who is unaccustomed to being frank and open, Young-jae is bad at making friends and very proud of his ideals and principles. He deeply loves his childhood friend, Hye-Won, even though she shows him no affection. One day, he stumbles upon Ji-Eun and slowly falls in love with her.

Kang Hye-Won (Lorraine Kang) ~ Han Eun Jung

Hye-Won is the daughter of Doctor Lee's friend. She is a fashion designer, who designs Young-Jae’s clothes. She has known Young-Jae’s family since her childhood. Hye-won has lived her entire life in abundance and has had many choices. She comes from a rich family, and is accustomed to being loved. She has never been rejected by anybody, until Min-Hyuk, and only feels content when everybody around her loves her.

Yoo Min-Hyuk (Luigi Yoo) ~ Kim Sung Soo

Min-Hyuk is a director of a large media company. He dreams of establishing Asia’s Walt Disney or Fox. He is tenacious and smart, and respected and recognized for his skills. He is confident in earning trust from people. He has always been a winner, and is determined to remain one for the rest of his life. He possesses sophisticated manners and is very eloquent – a Prince Charming that any girl could dream of. Min-Hyuk believes that life is too short to live it without fun. Unlike his seemingly unrestricted personality, he is very composed and prudent. He can’t stand losing and has a strong desire to win in everything, which probably explains his successful career. Hye-Won loves him though he rejects her instantly saying that she’s like a sister to him. Known to be a player, he is changed when he meets Ji-Eun and realizes that she is something special.

Filming location

Full House was filmed in the Gwangyeok-si area of Incheon. Located near Incheon International Airport, it's a ten-minute boat ride from Sammok Harbor to this quiet, seashore getaway. Unlike other filming locations in Korea, this is an actual house. Made mostly of wood, this house, which is a private-owned vacation house, cost approximately one million US dollars to build. The beachfront property looks out onto open waters, with elegant views that could be used on any postcard. Many fans of the miniseries make a pilgrimage to this now famous home. Nearby sightseeing locations include Jogak (sculpture) Park on Modo Island; a bridge connects these two islands.

The island on which Full House is located in is called Shin-do or Si-Do island. It is about a 10 to 20 minute taxi ride from Incheon airport to the ferry from Sammock Harbour to Shin-Do Island. The ferry leaves every hour on the half hour. When you get off the ferry, there is a bus to Full House which costs only 1,000 won. After the bus, it is about 1.5 kilometers further to Full House. To get inside Full House, you have to pay 3,000 won. You then have to walk back again to the bus stop and this time wait for the bus to arrive. At harbour, you pay to get back to the mainland and then walk to the bus stop to get back to Incheon airport where you have to transfer to an airport shuttle bus (free of charge). Come early because waiting for the transportation to come and pick you up to where you want to go takes time.

Week-long Leave

Saturday-Sunday ( Mar 17-18 )

1st and 2nd Day of my week-long vacation leave, overnyt swimming @ Montevista, Pansol Laguna. Its a sort of reunion of our college barkada. It was originally planned @ Volets Resort in Cavite but since we'll be having our kids w/ us, nyt swimming in a non-hotspring resort is not appealing.

Picture_019_1Picture_031_7561339481l_3

We set it @ 6pm. Jeng and her family ( leo, lenard and yano) arrived first a little before 6pm. Rex, Kei and I arrived next @ about 7pm. We then waited for Flor's Family ( ariel, anjo and yel-yel) and alma's family. Had tequila, my first hard drink in years. Can't actually remember the last time. Wasn't given the chance to pass, ( was actually forced hehehe ). Perhaps I didn't sound convincing when I told them that I longer drink alcoholic beverages. Well, to cut it short, we ( alma, jenny, amat and I) consumed 2 ( 750ml ) bottles. Rex, allan, leo and ariel consumed about 6 red horse grande. We occupied a large kamalig which also inlcudes a 12-seater table. We left at about 9am coz alma and leo have to go to work. Jenny and leo left at about 8am. Was able to hitch a ride w/ amat til metopolis alabang. Kei and I then take a bus from alabang to cubao. Rex went to victoria laguna to visit his long-lost HS friend, also our kumpare. Arrived home at around 11am.

Monday ( March 19 )

Went to DTI. Was able to secure an application form for sole proprietor business name registration ( whatever ots called). After completing the form, was sked on mar 22 ( 1pm ) for the evaluation. Txted pusa but was told that she's on half day. Got home at about 6pm.

Tuesday ( March 20 )

Went to stella marris to submit kei's application form ( together w/ the requirements) at around 430 pm. Too tired to do it earlier. hehehe! Nway, wasn't able to pay the Php500 examination fee because the accounting/cashier's office is already closed. Kei sked is on mar 22 8am.

Wednesday ( March 21 )

Went back to stella maris to pay the examination fee. Then went to isetann supermarket to to buy some toiletries. then went to sm cubao w/ kei. Also paid our phone/internet bill @ bayad center.

Thursday ( March 22 )

Rex accompanied kei to stella coz I need to go to DTI. Arrived at DTI @ around 12nn. Around 50 applicants (scheduled at 11am) are still waiting. Was told by the guard that I need to start a new line that was sked @ 1pm. But was also told that those sked @ 11am needs to be done first before the next batch. Found out that some of the "evaluators" are on their lunch break and only one counter is open, twas the reason why its taking too long to finish the 11am batch of applicants. Nway was done at around 215PM. Paid the php300 registration fee. Have to wait for almost an hour fot the releasing of the actual certification. Txted pusa and had coffee & yosi. Got home at about 6pm.

Friday ( March 23 )

Kei's graduation ( preparatory ). Was sked @ 1pm but we have to be there early for the toga, flowers, etc. Arrived @ 1230NN. Good thing it was held @ St Ignatius Church coz it has a centralized aircon. Nway, it was very tiring 5-hour affair. It started w/ a mass then followed by the actual graduation then student's presentations, then "kiddie party" c/o jollibee. Didn't bother to attend the party, was too tired for that. Nway, we did prepare tuna putanesca and chocolate cake from goldilocks. Twas very tiring, perhaps due to the fact that it is the last day of my VL. :(

Day Off

Im very happy because i have accomplished a lot of things during my 2-day off.

First Day : March 14

1st stop : SSS-Cubao ( @ 1030 am)

I was able have apply for an SSS ID which i've been wanting to have for the longest time...just for the reason of not having a "valid ID". Ewan ko b pero in almost all transaction that requires identification, u need to present at least two valid id.

Pero syempre, i didn't came in unprepared. Tnx to the world wide web, I was able to check the requirements I need to have to apply for an SSS ID.  Check out their website, it might come in handy..www.sss.gov.ph.

It took less than an hour to complete the process. All you have to do is fill up the "E6" form which you can get at the Information Desk. Then submit it together w/ at least 2 IDs ( I use my company ID and Postal ID-which I got at the local post office near Camp aguinaldo because I got no other gov't valid ID which was also needed for you to enter the camp aguinaldo premises where kei is studying and also where we normally did our grocery- tax free of course.  hehehe! ). Nway after verifying all info in ur E6 form, next step will be the actual id capture ( take note, with flash po un camera n ginamit. good thing n nde ito parang NBI or police clearance the ordinary webcam lng ginagamit ),   finger print sampling ( index finger and thumb on both hands lng un needed ) and of course signature ( mejo difficult kc u hav to exert a lot of pressure on the actual scanner and u have to do it as if u have ur eyes closed. Y? because there's no display on the actual scanner. although mejo mabait naman un nag-fafacilitate kc he let me look at the output and made necessary adjustments. As in nka-3 take ako ). Then after that u'll be given the stub and that's it!  U just have to sit back relax and dream that it will take just a maximum of 2 months to receive the ID.

2nd stop : NSO - East Ave Branch ( @ 1140 am )

I almost apply for the "express" ( Census Cerbilis )  for php300 each  because of the huge crowd. But as I was about to fill up the form, another applicant ask me how much it cost, he said, "tga-saan b kyo? kc kung s manila kng kyo masyado mahal yan. maganda lng yan kung tga probinsya un me kailangan kc idedeliver nila un kahit saan s pilipinas." Realization hit me, honga no, total d2 lng naman me sa manila tpos and2 n rin lng ako then make the most of it n lng. Mejo he made sense kc nga naman @ 125 per request ( birth cert, marriage certificate, etc)  tpos ipapadala p s province either through LBC or UPS plus un fare and meal allowance p nun mag aasikaso, sulit n. Unlike me n min fare lng papuntang east ave nde me gagastos ng php300. Then I also decided to request kei's birth certificate and our marriage contract aside from my birth certificate para sulit pagod ko.  Imagine kung s express un php900  na agad. To cut it short, I waited for my number 3238 ( current number is around 2500++). Nway nde naman ganun katagal un waitng time kc un increment nun counter averages to 40's ( paiba iba kc, minsan 20 un increment, minsan 40, 60 etc ).  1st wait is for them to check the request form that is on the first gate. 2nd wait : for the payment of course. During the 2nd wait another applicant gave me a new number 3192 ( i dunno how she aquired another number, no worries wasn't asked for any money so definitely nde fixer, hehehe), meaning its 1 counter ahead. The only sad part is that the release date would be tom ( mar 15, 10 am ). Don't worry i'll be back tom... ;p

Third stop ( KFC farmers )

Well i need to have my lunch break...;p

Fourth Stop : Brgy Hall ( Socorro ) ( @ almost 3PM )

It didn't take more than 5 min to complete the process. Im d only applicant the filling up the form took less than a min. Then the actual certificate took approx 3 min to complete ( min amount ot  tax for non-employed" is php50.30 ).

After this I admit im totally "worn out". I have to go home initially to freshen up. But since Im very tired it turned out to be a 2-hr nap ( siesta ). Then I decided that i need to stick to my sked and that includes having a 2x2 pic. So  back to cubao and have my picture taken at Kameraworld in alimall ( 4-2x2 and 8-1x1 ) not bad for php60 since its digital. Little bit malling then back to base. ;p

Second Day : March 15

1st Stop : NSO ( past 10 am )

As usual it took a while to claim all my "requests". But we're done at about 1140am. I have kei w/ me btw.

2nd Stop : Jollibee-Farmers ( aound 12NN )

Of course lunch break ulit.

Third Stop : Stella Maris College- Cubao

A day late for the entrance exam ( march 14 ). Nway was able to get requirement for application ( which includes Birth and Baptismal certificate - orig and photocopy, 1x1 pic, Certificate of Good Moral Character, and Report Card ( original or Certified True Copy ). Next entrance exam date: April 11. Take note, Tuition Fee : Php23,640 ( SY 2006-2007 ) subjected to yaerly increase. Application form will be given after submitting all the requirements.

Fourth Stop : Saint Joseph Catholic School ( near World CTI formerly QCMC in Anonas - Cubao )

Was able to secure an application form but we don't have the needed requirements yet ( Report Card, Birth Certificate, Baptismal Cert, Marriage Contract of Parent, Doctor's Certificate, Certificate of Good Moral Character, and 2 1x1 id pic ). Tuition Fee : Php 27,400.

Fifth Stop : Kameraworld - Alimall ( 1430 PM )

This time to have kei's pic taken, same id combo package. ( which includes 8 1x1 pic, 1 for Stella Maris and 2 for St Joseph ).

Last Stop : SM -Cubao

Got me a new shorts.

Tiring but definitely fulfilling.

More to come next week. I'll be on vacation leave from mar 17-23.  ;p

nway, after i'm done reading, she told me..."mommy, hulog mo n s LBC, bilis."
